What is Angler 395?

Angler 395 is an iPhone app, now in development, for anglers who fish the US-395 corridor from Reno down to Lone Pine. It combines live stream flows, water temperatures, weather and road conditions from roughly a dozen sources into one fishability score per water, and shows how much real measurement sits behind each score.

What it does

Calibrated, not confident

Most fishing apps are a weather widget with a fish on it — a number with no account of how it was reached. Angler 395 reports conditions and how well it knows them, because on this road the second part is what makes the first part worth trusting.

One answer, not a dashboard

Every water gets a fishability score built from live flow, water temperature, weather and access. At 5am you want a number and a reason, not twelve tabs of raw gauge data.

Every score shows its work

Each score arrives with how much real measurement is behind it. A river running 6 cfs on a gauge reporting nothing else says exactly that, instead of hiding it behind a confident-looking number.

Unknown stays unknown

A lake nobody has entered a season for reads unknown — never open. The difference between those two words is a citation, so we don't paper over the gap with a plausible guess.

The road is part of the forecast

Caltrans and Nevada 511, folded into the same answer. Perfect flows above a closed Sonora Pass aren't a fishing report, they're a four-hour detour you find out about at the gate.

Sources a national app won't touch

USGS gauges and the National Weather Service, plus satellites reading lake surfaces from orbit and the Owens Valley flow pages that still publish their numbers printed on a picture.

Dates that move

The general opener is the last Saturday in April; other waters shift year to year. You'll know a season is still nine days out before you load the truck, not when you get there.

Where the numbers come from

The main source types behind each fishability score — roughly a dozen sources in all, each weighted by how reliable it is.

What it deliberately won't do: predict catch rates, or tell you the best time to fish. It reports conditions and how well it knows them. The judgement stays yours.

Founding members

395 people get in before the first cast

This isn't a mailing list. Founding members shape what ships — which waters get measured first, which numbers land on the home screen, and where the confidence model is still lying to us. In exchange, you get the app early and you never pay more than you did on day one.

  • Founding rate, locked for life

Whatever Angler 395 costs later, you keep the founding price for as long as you use it.

  • TestFlight before anyone else

You'll be fishing with early builds while the public beta is still a screenshot.

  • A direct line to the builder

A private channel, not a support queue. Founding feedback goes to the top of the list.

  • Your home water gets measured first

Tell us where you fish and that stretch moves up the queue for sources and calibration.

  • Founding badge in the app

A small thing. But you were here before the first cast.

Roadmap

Where this is, honestly

No pre-orders for vapor. Here's what's built, what's next, and when you'd get your hands on it.

  1. Now · Fall 2026

    Wiring the sources

USGS gauges, the National Weather Service, Caltrans, Nevada 511, satellite lake-surface reads, and the Owens Valley pages that publish flows as numbers on a picture — plus the model that decides how much any of it is worth.

  2. Winter 2026–27

    Founding TestFlight

First scores on real water, each one carrying its confidence. Rough edges included, on purpose: the point of this stage is finding where the data lies to us.

  3. Opening day 2027

Public beta on the App Store

Timed to the general trout opener, the last Saturday in April. Founding feedback decides what makes that build.

  4. After the opener

    More water, tighter confidence

Widening coverage down the corridor and narrowing the error bars on what's already there — more measurement behind more scores, and fewer waters reading unknown.
